The Nexus
Nexus is a small provision with a specialist classroom and sensory area within the main school at Archers Brook, that provides a tailored approach for children who have ASC/SEMH needs often with accompanying anxiety that may have previously led to EBNSA.
We are a small class with limited numbers, we encourage engagement and success for each child and ensure this with a unique approach to their learning. We provide a low arousal area where children can find a genuine passion for school and their learning in the best environment for their needs. We use sensory input and regulation support to ensure that children are able to access their learning and create a positive environment for them to ensure they are able to access their individualised curriculum.
Life skills, problem solving and independence skills are explored. We look at social interaction, communication and encourage readiness for their future in education. This distinct offer is separate to the larger school setting, with capacity staffing allowing higher supervision. It is also possible therefore for this small cohort identified as matched to the Nexus offer to have a more responsive diet of social stories & speech and language through a multi-sensory approach.
In the Nexus we recognised that anxiety in all of its forms can feel unsurmountable and sometimes not been seen through that lens, we try in call cases to be child led and aim to integrate pupils through our setting into their next phase of education; this could be The Link provision, directly into their form group or even back to mainstream if this is agreed through process.
Our ethos in Nexus is to "Support, Educate, Encourage and Belong". We want children to have a positive successful journey into high school and beyond.
